A guide to Essex Nightlife

Buzzbars.net has a guide to top quality Essex Nightclubs such as Duke's and Time and Envy. Remember: a shirt with collar is required, as are trousers and shoes. And it might be "couples only" (unless you're a woman). Oh, and they're all shit.

The Elvis Sighting Bulletin Board

Sighting Archive of The Elvis Sighting Bulletin Board - A Hunka Hunka Burnin' HyperText

I was in the porn shop buying some wholesome animal porn, when Elvis came in and bought a big blow up doll. He was big and fat like he was last time anyone could prove they saw him.

Eye Toy PC Drivers

How to get your EyeToy working as a webcam in Win2k & WinXP
(with thanks to Daniel Wild)

(from google groups)

http://support.dlink.com/

Use drop down boxes to locate drivers for;
D-Link DSB-C310 (Rev B1)
Download driver from D-Link

Unzip to a folder
Go to folder, locate OV519.inf,
Right click file,
Properties>Untick 'Read Only'

Open OV519.inf in Notepad
Edit>Replace

Replace
VID_05A9&PID_8519
with
VID_054C&PID_0154
Select 'Replace All'
Save OV519.inf

Then, plug your Eye Toy into the USB port, wait for it to be recognised and
install the drivers' in the normal way using the Have Disk option at the
prompt and the modified OV519.inf file.
(double check which drivers you're installing as my Win2k attempted
to install its own driver)

During the installation, you'll get a system box with ???? in it...this is
the 50Hz/60Hz option setting. I set it to 50Hz for now.
That's it.
The software to view the webcam output is included in the driver pack...
AMCAP.EXE, Options>Tick Preview
You should now get a picture of whatever your EyeToy is pointed at.

UPDATE: Well, just tried it, and it works, on XP with SP1 installed...

UPDATE 2: Fuller information on this procedure can be FOUND HERE

UPDATE 3: Please note that I am NOT providing a free tech support service for getting your eyetoy working on your PC so complaining that it doesn't work and asking for help will get you nowhere.

UPDATE 4: This blog has been discontinued, find this post and comment on it on my new blog

Arcade Machine On A Disk

With the advent of huge multi-game emulators of the likes of M.A.M.E., gone are the days of having a quick game of Space Invaders etc. in your lunch break. Hiding over 50Mb of software from the prying eyes of network administrators and all the new operating systems & tools that they have to play with these days can have its effects on your time and pleasure.

The concept of AMOAD is to revert once more, back to single arcade machine emulation software which can be booted directly from your floppy drive, thus leaving absolutely no trace of any of those lunchtime treats.

That joke isn't funny anymore

A song by seminal 1980s band The Smiths has been voted the best track to listen to when you are down in the dumps.

I Know It's Over topped a poll of tunes which people turn to when they are miserable in The Songs That Saved Your Life poll by BBC radio station 6 Music.

AND Bowling For F**KING Soup - "Girl All The Bad Guys Want" is #2?

Greylisting

A new method of stopping spam: greylisting.

The Greylisting method is very simple. It only looks at three pieces of information (which we will refer to as a "triplet" from now on) about any particular mail delivery attempt:

1. The IP address of the host attempting the delivery
2. The envelope sender address
3. The envelope recipient address

From this, we now have a unique triplet for identifying a mail "relationship". With this data, we simply follow a basic rule, which is:

If we have never seen this triplet before, then refuse this delivery and any others that may come within a certain period of time with a temporary failure.

Tellyguide

TellyGuide is a custom channel for offline Web browsers such as AvantGo, iSilo, or Plucker. It was designed to provide you with detailed UK television listings for both satellite and terrestrial channels for up to five days in advance. It is an alternative to the (now defunct) free version of DigiGuide which gave you only one days listing and no synopsis.

It can give you seven days of listings and full details of the programmes (when available). It can also let you tag programmes that you like and flag them to you in the listings or within your own special "my favourites" view.
