We've had Glastonbury

You dozy bastards - Some fans thought another festival was taking place in 2003 after a poster for the original event appeared in this year's programme - giving the date but not the year. So they followed the poster's instructions to send cheques for 1 pound per ticket to organiser Michael Eavis.

A U.S. soldier has shot

A U.S. soldier has shot dead a rare Bengal tiger at Baghdad zoo... "Someone was trying to feed the tigers," he said on Saturday. "The tiger bit his finger off and clawed his arm. So his colleague took a gun and shot the tiger."

Imagine living next door to that... A British animal protection group said Thursday it had rescued 244 dogs, 16 parrots, seven cats, a rabbit and a chinchilla from a three-bedroom house in what it described as the biggest seizure in its 181-year history.

Beyonce

If you were wondering, the horns sample from Beyonce "Crazy in Love" comes from the Chi-Lites "Are You My Woman". Unfortunately, unlike a lot of classic soul songs sampled (*cough* Will Smith?) it's not as good as the later song.

Collaborative mp3 playlist analysis & recommendations

I wish someone would write an mp3 player (or more practically a plugin for popular mp3 players like winamp, xmms & quintessential that looked at what's in your playlist, uploaded it to a server and compared it against other people's playlists and recommended songs/artists for you to try. This would be better than moodlogic because that only works on your own collection of mp3s as far as I can tell.

Similar to this idea with a dash of musicbrainz, freedb & allmusic

UPDATE (April 2004): AudioScrobbler sounds like the sort of thing...

Assault Weapons

Why would you want to own an "assault style" weapon? Of course, because it makes you look really cool!

Particularly like this: "In these post 9/11 days, prudent Americans recognize that we are all vulnerable and should be prepared to defend ourselves, our families, our communities, and our country from threats that can strike us anytime and anyplace.". Yeah, everyone being allowed to take big guns onto a plane would certainly make me feel more secure.

Why I love ceefax

Why I love ceefax [guardian.co.uk]

Ask any Ceefax addict and they'll know certain pages off by heart: 102 for news; 302 for football; 400 for weather and I can't travel anywhere by train without checking page 430 and learning that services between Gatwick and East Croydon are delayed by 10 minutes because of a bridge strike in the Earlsfield area.

In total agreement...

Soothing sounds for baby

Saw this

Soothing sounds for baby

in Select-a-disc today... interesting album by Raymond Scott (who sounds like some sort of electronic music pioneer).

An Electronics music man almost before there was any such thing,Raymond Scott spends most of his time creating ingenious devices in his Long Island workshop. His Clavivox(foreground) can make woodwind, brass or humanspinding tones. The Electronium, parts of which surround the inventor, is a machine which Scott says composes music.
