Eye Toy PC Drivers

How to get your EyeToy working as a webcam in Win2k & WinXP
(with thanks to Daniel Wild)

(from google groups)

http://support.dlink.com/

Use drop down boxes to locate drivers for;
D-Link DSB-C310 (Rev B1)
Download driver from D-Link

Unzip to a folder
Go to folder, locate OV519.inf,
Right click file,
Properties>Untick 'Read Only'

Open OV519.inf in Notepad
Edit>Replace

Replace
VID_05A9&PID_8519
with
VID_054C&PID_0154
Select 'Replace All'
Save OV519.inf

Then, plug your Eye Toy into the USB port, wait for it to be recognised and
install the drivers' in the normal way using the Have Disk option at the
prompt and the modified OV519.inf file.
(double check which drivers you're installing as my Win2k attempted
to install its own driver)

During the installation, you'll get a system box with ???? in it...this is
the 50Hz/60Hz option setting. I set it to 50Hz for now.
That's it.
The software to view the webcam output is included in the driver pack...
AMCAP.EXE, Options>Tick Preview
You should now get a picture of whatever your EyeToy is pointed at.

UPDATE: Well, just tried it, and it works, on XP with SP1 installed...

UPDATE 2: Fuller information on this procedure can be FOUND HERE

UPDATE 3: Please note that I am NOT providing a free tech support service for getting your eyetoy working on your PC so complaining that it doesn't work and asking for help will get you nowhere.

Seems like it only works with Logitech cameras.
Namtay ones (mine) doesn't accept the modified driver.

Posted by: Baptiste at April 5, 2004 08:50 PM

that did the trick thanks for that

Posted by: ice at April 6, 2004 08:57 PM

Weyhey, driver works a treat. Is there also plans to try and get the in built microphone working as well?

Posted by: DaveT at April 22, 2004 07:02 PM

On a Win XP pro system. I followed the instructions on this site and it works grand. Just make sure it's the .inf file and not the .cab file you try and edit with notepad.

Posted by: Liam at April 25, 2004 10:52 AM

was put onto this by a friend. it works fine. took a few seconds to install on XPsp1. nice job :) :)

I tried to find the folder named OV519.inf but I didn't. There's no file with inf at the end. And when I clicked in properties in every file, I couldn't untick "Read Only". It didn't let me. What am I supossed to do?

Thanks to everyone that took the time to post information regarding the Eye Toy USB Camera here.

I downloaded the driver D-Link DSB-C310 (Rev B1)
from support.dlink.com and made the recommended changes to the OV519.INF file but the thing did not work.
Then I went to www.kurve.com.au/sairuk/eyetoy and downloaded their version of the OV519.INF file.

Now my Eye Toy is working perfectly with Windows 2000.

Once again, thanks to all !

Posted by: Douglas at May 19, 2004 03:39 AM

Hi,

If you have the namtai version just use:

VID_054C&PID_0155

in your replace field in notepad. Does the job just fine.

Works like a treat! Great stuff.

Only 1 little thing you might mention for people who have toruble editing and saving the OV519.inf file, it was in read-only mode. I had to check the files properties (right click on the ov519.inf file, and click on properties) untick the read-only box and click OK. Then continue to edit the file and save it...

BTW just checked and mine is logitech manufactured.

Oh yes, also, to anyone who can't find a file with .inf at the end....You need to turn on file extentions in Windows Explorer:
Open the windows explorer file browser...click on:
"Tools / Folder Options / View" (In windows 98 I think you have to click "View / Folder Options" instead)
Now UNTICK the box 'Hide File Extentions For Known File Types' Click OK. You will now be able to see file extentions. OV519.inf instead of just OV519 and so on.
Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

I installed it on Win XP pro but then it also looked for the audio drivers right after installing webcam driver (ov519.inf). Does anyone have the same problem with the audio drivers. Please post any solution. I have the Namtai cam.
I also installed it on Windows 2000 and it worked perfectly.

Posted by: David Boscolo at October 12, 2004 05:22 AM

this process works fine for windows ME, using the ME drivers from the same link as above... and on a side note, the EyeToy is really no a bad little camera for what it is.

Hey tried it with a namtai camera on windows XP home, with service pack 2, It wouldn't find the driver when I searched in the location with the ini file. Both links are down for the other downloadable drivers that don't need the modifying. If someone could get some links to those files up, or tell me of a trick for my specific configuration. That would be cool. plz let me know.

Many Thank Yous for putting this information on the web!

I also had the same problem with device recognition that you address with the more detailed instructions in Update 2 above.

As an interesting sidenote, if I install the EyeToy, then I plug the EyeToy into a different USB port, I have to go through the installation process all over again.

Ok, I used to have the Eye Toy working fine. But the other i got a brand new computer, AMD 2.6ghtz, Win Xp, thought it was great, then i tried plugging the Eye Toy in to it and it comes up with the message "USB device not recognised" and jus keeps popping up, over and over until i take the Eye Toy out. Anyone know why??

Posted by: RpgMaster at February 20, 2005 12:26 AM

This is by far the best thing i have done in ages, you guys are gods. Mine works perfectly and after I realised that all I had to do to get it to install the driver properly was allow the imported inf file (via the bottom of the properties window of the file). Just had to hit allow and it pritty well much done it it's self after that. Thank You Daniel Wild

Posted by: Josh at November 5, 2005 08:15 AM

ok josh go to the contol panel ( with eyetoy plugged in ) go to system then device manager then find the eyetoy click on it and you can instal its driver from there

from what i can see here , the newer eyetoys - silver ones or ones not made by logitech are not compatible with the driver and therefor wont work

i hav xp sp2 and it works fine as does the mic and video on msn 7.5

Took me a short time to work it out but I managed to get it to work. Haven't tried it on MSN yet but I'm sure it will work.
And just for the record I am using XPpro with SP2 and I'm using a USB Hun, so yes, it works with one of those as well.

Thanks for the info guys.

AND REPEATING THE SAME INSTALLATION STILL SHAGS IT UP......ITS A REAL PAIN IN THE ARSE

Posted by: SHALLABYMM at November 8, 2005 11:51 PM

Works Ok on XP home with SP2 fully up-to-date as of 19/11/05, Amcap records sound and video from it. Guys, remember to edit all three INF files and replace all the values as per the instructions. Also check the type number, it’s on the base of the unit, as per instructions. A "replace all" in each file is a good idea. Get ride of blurred picture by turning the lens!
On MSN didn't get the sound going, video is very good, so I used a separate microphone for sound into the sound card. Thanks Daniel, I now have one happy little girl, who has save her pocket money.

gday,
i loaded everything ive been told to ive converted the right file and when i plug in the eye-toy it doesent come up in toolbar, so i go control panel and open it and then add hardware it searches then it finds the file, YET it's called D-link VGA webcam, is that the same with everyone else? and it also has an exclimation mark on it! and then i click on it and it goes through to a new window saying "the device cannot start (code 10) ) any ideas anyone, much help would be appreciated

i find that the eye toy is ok, but as soon as i start to use it on msn it gets all slow and starts to stick. i thought the frame rate was supposed to be 30 fps? is that right, cos when on msn it goes to about 10 fps...if any one knows why this is please tell me, or do you think it is just my computer? (im using windows xp)

how do i get a silver eyetoy with 00004 to work

Posted by: chris at January 14, 2006 09:02 PM

Hi I initially had trouble installing under windows 98 with plug and play . No device listed after selecting the .inf file in the device install procedure. I then restarted without the iToy plugged in under win98. Then restarted again with it plugged in. This time the install procedure while booting up worked a treat. Excellent

Downloaded it all and it works except from OV519.EXE. Because when I open it, it just then closes back down.

Does anyone know why it does this?

lean to read and understand what you are reading, you might get somewhere then, failing that bin the pc and go back to grunting, its all most of the world is capable of anyway

I have the namtai version, which I couldn't get to work until I did the following

Care of Evans:

to anyone who can't find a file with .inf at the end....You need to turn on file extentions in Windows Explorer:
Open the windows explorer file browser...click on:
"Tools / Folder Options / View" (In windows 98 I think you have to click "View / Folder Options" instead)
Now UNTICK the box 'Hide File Extentions For Known File Types' Click OK. You will now be able to see file extentions. OV519.inf.

Care of Paul McCarl:

use:
VID_054C&PID_0155

in your replace field in notepad.

I have XP Home sp2. It is working well.

So as before read and follow the instructions carefully

Hi all
Works fine for me there is couple o things worth metioning.
1. It doesn't work when you have missing class in registry for imaging devices. somehow it happened to me i plugged it in and system didn't recognized the webcam i've got only message unkown device then i fixed the class entry for imaging devices and it worked.
2. Second thing is it's very sensitive to swaping between different usb ports. it happened to me when i was 'dusting' my pc i've unplugged it and then I didnt remember which usb port it was in so i've plugged to different one and it didn't work after that. To fix this you have to clean usb entries in save mode by uninstalling all usb instances of namtai webcam in device manager then booting in to win in normal mode and installing driver again.
im using win xp pro sp2
good luck!

Thank you, I've found very useful your experience. It works fine for me too changing VID_054C&PID_0154 to VID_054C&PID_0155 (maybe a new version). I detected it looking in Hardware Properties for the hardware string.
