You missed out the best thing about the soundtrack - the classical vocal thingy that plays a couple of times in the film and when the end credits first start rolling.
Still, great film, great soundtrack

maffo, isn't that on the official soundtrack (orchestral based one)?

This is based on the period pop music in the film for which they could not get the rights.

Incidentally in case the geocities site is down, here is the track listing:

1. ‘The Killing Moon’ – Echo & The Bunnymen
2. ‘Head Over Heels’ – Tears For Fears
3. ‘Notorius’ – Duran Duran
4. ‘West End Girls’ – Pet Shop Boys
5. ‘Proud To Be Loud’ – Keel
6. ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ – Joy Division
7. ‘Under The Milky Way’ – The Church
8. ‘Mad World’ – Gary Jules
9. ‘Mad World’ – Tears For Fears
10. ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ - INXS

Donnie Darko is indeed a great movie!
James, thanks for the track listing, I was looking for some of these songs. It will be very helpful. However, I would like to know where the "official soundtrack" is available at? I mean the one where I could find the music Maffu was talking about, at the end of the movie, when the end credits start rolling? Do you have any idea? If you do, please e-mail me!

Thanks
Mike

I LOVE DONNIE DARKO!!! Its MOST DEFINATELY one of my ABSOLUTE favorite movies!! I love the soundtrack! It kicks ass! And Jake is REALLY hot! Kirsten Dunst is lucky. Anyways, i just have to say that the movie AND soundtrack both are hypnotic and addictive. I love all of it!

One of the best movies around. I'm trying to search for that song that is played when the shot is going slowly down the hallway at school for the 1st time. Is an amazing bass line. I do like the Gary Jules song, but the best track on the soundtrack for me is that 'school song' - whoever it's by.

In case any of you are still looking for the Tears for Fears song 'Mad World' sung by Gary Jules, I have heard that it is being released as a single here in the UK in December (2003).
Check it out!!

Just in case anybody is into hard house music:

There is a piece of speech in the movie, about 53 minutes in, where Donnie & his girlfriend are walking through the woods. She says to him, "What if you could go back in time and take hours of pain & darkness and replace them with something better?" Then he tries to kiss her.

That sample was used in a hard house tune called "Back In Time" by "Kernzy & Klemenza." It's a brilliant tune! And an even better movie!

BTW, can anybody confirm what his girlfriend actually says because I am not sure if I got the words right?

Thanks for the listing it will make a great sub for the soundtrack what a shame its not available. This is definetly one of my favourite films of all time the soundtrack is probably one of the best ever, if your my age (21) it really reminds you of the days when you were a kid overhaearing these songs that your older brothers/sisters were listening to. the best songs have to be the ones by e.a.t.b, the church and joy division. What a wicked film.

So did anyone ever figure out which chorale piece it is that we hear during the "stupid man suit" conversation, and in several other places? I think this is the same piece people were asking about at the beginning of this thread, and i'm really dying to hear a clean version of it start to finish.

Also, James posted that pet shop boys (west end girls) was somewhere in the film. I don't seem to remember this being there?

No, West End Girls was apparently supposed to be in the film (I think perhaps instead of "Notorious"?) but they couldn't get the rights...
